A collection of loose expressive landscapes inspired by green grass, blue water, and island life.
Even if it's only for a week while on vacation.
I wanted to paint a collection that feels like island life, of summer days, the smell of green grass, warm afternoons, and beautiful greens near the water. I wanted it to feel like Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, Kiawah, or Wild Dunes. It’s not based on any one location, but inspired by the greens and blues of resort locations near the ocean
I’m not a golfer, but I’ve spent a lot of time on golf courses. North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, California, and even Scotland, and Ireland, (Yes, my husband was a golfer, so many of our vacations included golf courses. Secret: most of them also have spas and beautiful pools where I could enjoy a good book.)
My vision for the 'Island Life' Collection included large brushstrokes, flat shapes, and loose, transparent color. I wanted lots of lines and marks, so I drew shapes of palm trees and flowers in oil pastel layered over paint. I wanted to focus on the feeling of cool fresh air (or warm fresh air), freedom, and a slower pace.
